I got a chance to catch up with PdotO after releasing Stay High featuring Morale and this is what he had to say.
Silas: Hey man how’s it going? I was talking to someone the other day and they referred to you as Poet. Tell us about that.
PdotO: I’m still a poet. Always been, always will. I write when I’m driven by inspiration. I started out writing poetry back in 2000, that influenced my writing even when I moved to making music.
Silas: What’s happening in your life musically at the moment. Give us a run down man. Tell us what’s up?
PdotO: I’m wrapping up the Devils Playground, My debut album…I know it’s taken years to get to this point, but I know it will be worth it for the fans. I put my everything in my music. DP is my baby, my heart, my blood shed for you. That’s the focus right now.
Silas: Tell me, what’s been your greatest song and greatest collaboration up to this point?
PdotO: love all the songs I create but people have seemed to gravitate towards ‘ I tried ‘ the most, I did that back in 2010, it still gets the most buzz, I guess, it’s got a life of its own. Greatest combo will be either myself and J-lawless or myself and Blaklez,..or myself with N’veigh..lol. I just gel with the homies.
Silas: Strange. “I tried” was how I first heard about you when i was still living in East London.
I know that you’re a king when it comes to features. Who’s next? Who would you dig to have on a feature?
PdotO: Hahahhha..didn’t know I was the King of that. I love it when it’s organic. I always let the music dictate that sort of stuff, be it the production or the writing. I never approach music with preconceived ideas…so you really never know.
Silas: Help the beat makers out there real quick: what do you look for when you’re picking a beat? What stands out for you?
PdotO: Bounce and originality. I love messing with different shit.
Silas: What’s your weapon of choice when you’re writing? Are you an ink and pad type of guy or do you prefer technology?
PdotO: pen and pad till I bow out.
Silas: Cool. Talk to us a bit about DP.
PdotO: I have frustrated my fans because of that LP.
Silas: How so?
PdotO: They beeeeeen waiting for.it, DP is my heart on a platter, my debut album. Future classic. Nuffsaid
Silas: haha, too the point. I like it. So what can we expect from PdotO in the coming months? What’s cooking?
PdotO: More singles, collaborations, and videos..we working now!! F*ck the bullshit, and of course…….DP
Silas: Where would you say south african hip hop is heading in the next 12 months? Are you happy with what you’ve seen in the past 12 months?
PdotO: It’s incredible right now. High competition, intensity and passion and corporates are lending us a ear…we going far, this is the time when Legends are made in SA hip hop and I’m blessed to be a part of it.
Silas: Lastly, are you a gunner, a red devil, a scouser or a fan of the blues?
